These Apps Will Make You a Pro at Going Organic
“I’m allergic to chemicals in food so I eat only organic foods”Carol Channing
Although we are slowly making our way out of the fast food era and into a healthier one, it can still be difficult to decipher which foods are the healthiest foods. It’s not just about choosing the apple over the doughnut anymore. It’s finding the apple that doesn’t have an invisible layer of death enclosing it.
Alright, maybe the word death is too harsh…but what if we could SEE what was on our food? I’m talking about the pesticides, GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), and chemicals that have been sprayed over them to make them look perfect. You probably wouldn’t touch that apple with a ten foot pole. I’d choose an imperfect ear of corn or an apple with a worm inside any day of the week. You can wash a bug off your food or pluck it out. However, no matter how hard you scrub or how much you peel away at your produce, those chemicals are ingrained within.
But what if we wash our non organic produce?
If you’d like to know a little bit more about GMOs, specifically GMOs and corn, click here!
A few apps that will help you achieve organic!
This app is user friendly, especially for people like me who have zero talent when it comes to anything electronic/computer related. What I love most is its category list. You can find everything non-GMO from pasta to pet products and OTC drugs. You’re also able to find stores near your location.
The app doesn’t mention GMOs, pesticides, or chemicals but it makes the list for me because it has an amazing community of great people posting their healthy recipes and giving support. It’s essentially a weight loss app but I show up for the food! You can take those recipes and find non-GMO ways to make them. It’s free but once you’ve set up your account, it’ll give you the option of upgrading to loose more weight. They are running a promo right now. Spring Sale: 30% Discount
There is quite a bit to this app. You’re able to search by brand, category, and products but what I found interesting is that it has dietary filters. You can filter out (and these are just a few of the many) artificial color, artificial flavor, dairy, high fructose corn syrup, kosher, and many more. They even have COUPONS! This momma loves coupons. All in all, I give this app two big thumbs up because it’s also free.
If you’re always on-the-go and don’t have time to read every label wherever you do your shopping, then Thrive Market may be a good choice for you. They offer a shop by diet section which includes organic, vegan, gluten-free, and paleo. Or you can shop by brand. It does require a paid membership in order to use their services but you’re able to get freebies and coupons as well.
Are you better prepared to go organic?
I hope you find these apps helpful and if you find that switching to non-GMO foods is important to you and your family, the key to start the ball rolling, for my family, is to do little adjustments at a time. When our family started, we made small compromises here and there. We’re still learning more as we go along but with the healthier choices we’re making the better our bodies are feeling.
